Strategy and goals

The university as a networking hub

All research at CUAS Mainz is designed to help resolve current problems and challenges that society and the church are facing today, as well as challenges in the nursing and healthcare sectors.

We believe that the key to achieving this goal is combining teaching, research, support for early career researchers, professional development and transfer.

In this effort, we are guided by four major goals:

1. Focus on solutions

The research projects at CUAS Mainz address issues of structural change in social, charitable, nursing and pastoral services. We develop model concepts to serve as examples for dealing with new social problems and current challenges facing social service organizations.

2. Focus on impact

Impact research is understood and implemented in terms of both intervention and evaluation research. Impact-oriented governance combines political, administrative and social reform with elements of quality management in the delivery of social and nursing services.

3. Focus on networking

We systematically expand our networks with partners from academia, continuing education and professional practice. We maintain close ties with partner institutions in the healthcare, social and education sectors, working together to identify and address potential for innovation in collaborative projects for mutual benefit.

4. Focus on transfer

The transfer of knowledge and technology, as well as social engagement, complement our core tasks in teaching and research to foster what is known as the “third mission” of universities. Transfer is not understood as a one-way street: questions and learnings from professional practice inform research and teaching in the same way that research findings inform innovative solutions for practitioners. Moreover, we engage directly with society through various science communication activities.
