What awaits you

The part-time degree programme in Practical Theology provides comprehensive knowledge of the theological disciplines. These include, for example, biblical, historical and systematic theology with philosophy and ethics, practical theology, religious education and liturgical studies. Practice is taken seriously as a field of learning and reflection. For this reason, the content-related competences acquired should be deepened through internships. An individual and flexible approach is guaranteed.
Studying part-time means…

  • Compatibility with work and private life
  • Studying with clear practical relevance
  • Continuous support from lecturers with practical experience
  • broad-based and well-prepared learning material for individual development and discussion
  • individual solutions for the practical phases of the degree programme (internships)

What should you bring with you

You are interested in theological, ecclesiastical and social issues, want to delve deeper into them and be able to take a stand on them. It is also important to be communicative and enjoy working in networks. A previous internship or equivalent voluntary work experience in a church context is desirable. Due to its professional expertise, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences stands for a fundamental reform of the church, to which you should ideally belong.

What prospects are there?

The degree qualifies you to enter into a secure employment relationship as a parish assistant in a diocese, to which there are various contact options. The permanent diaconate may also be open to you. With your practical theological expertise, you will be able to work more intensively in the church context in order to guide people from practice for practice.
