Teaching

The themes of Migration and Integration feature in many degree courses being offered in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The spectrum stretches all the way from Sociology, Political Sciences and Economics via History, (Cultural) Geography and Ethnology as well as Literary and Linguistic Studies through to Educational Studies, Law and Theology. In general though Migration and Integration are only dealt with in the form of thematic considerations alongside many others that are to be found on the level of lectures and modules.

In contrast, however, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz is presently offering two degree courses that on the level of regular courses of study actually place the cross-disciplinary subjects of ‘Migration and Integration’ at the core and where they are being comprehensively and systematically examined, and these also include practical components:

the International Bachelor Degree in ‘Social Sciences: Migration and Integration’
and the specialist study focus on ‘Migration and Integration’ in the Bachelor degree course ‘Social Work’.

In addition to these, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz has developed and established ‚Welcome‘ guest courses for asylum seekers as part of the project supported by the German Academic Exchange Service.

These asylum seekers are exempted from paying any fees for guest studies by the University and it offers them support through a ‘student buddys scheme’.
